근거리무선통신(NFC) 기술에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 국제 NFC 표준논의 기구인 NFC포럼에 참여하는 국내 기업과 기관들이 늘고 있다.
24일 미국 NFC포럼에 따르면 현재 140여개 기업 및 기관이 가입해 활동하고 있으며 이중 국내 기업 및 기관도 10곳이 참여하고 있다.
NFC는 13.56㎒를 사용하는 단거리 RFID 기술로 지불결제와 각종 서비스 등에 활용되고 있다. 지난해부터 모바일 기기에 NFC 기술이 탑재되면서 IT기업은 물론 금융권의 주목을 받고 있다. NFC포럼은 NFC 기술 표준 등을 논의하기 위해 지난 2004년 설립된 기구로 노키아, 모토로라, 소니에릭슨, 퀄컴, AT&T, NTT도코모, 마이크로소프트, 인텔, 도시바, 비자, 마스터카드 등이 참여하고 있다.
지난해 9월만 해도 국내에서는 삼성전자, LG전자, SK텔레콤 만이 참여했으나 최근 참여기업 수가 크게 늘었다. 기존 참여업체 외에 SK C&C 미주법인, NFC 솔루션 업체인 AQ, 지불결제 시스템 시험전문기관 ICTK, 한국기계전기전자시험연구원, 정보통신산업진흥원 산하 RFID/USN센터, 한국정보통신기술협회(TTA), 엠텍비전 등이 참여하고 있다. 또 NFC 기술 확산에 따라 표준 활동에 참여하는 기업과 기관은 더욱 늘어날 전망이다.
